A recent find in the collapsed ruins of the stables at Date Palm Hill.
The object is 65 mm in diameter and was found remarkably intact except for a large chip on the underside. The remnants of its original wiring can also be viewed on the underside, but only a few wires are visible at the top. There are no manufacturers marks, but it is considered to be of British make.
Andreas Jacob Wenke the owner of Date Palm Hill was an early electrical pioneer and used his own funds to set up a Powerhouse in Walla Walla. In fact, Walla had power before Albury, which was quite an achievement.
Jacob was also very fond of his Clydesdale team and used them on farm long after his neighbors had converted to tractors and other ‘modern’ machinery. So obviously the stables had state of the art electrical fittings, which would have been quite unusual in those days.
We look forward to seeing what other treasures await us on site.
